Everything about Maxi Supermarket totally explained

Maxi is a grocery retailer based in Quebec, Canada. Founded in 1984, it's a subsidiary of Loblaw Companies Limited. The chain is the Quebec equivalent of no frills, a chain of franchised "hard discount" grocery stores in Ontario. Maxi briefly entered the Ontario market, but most stores were re-labelled no frills. Over 7,000 people are employed at the 96 Maxi and 16 Maxi & Cie stores across Quebec. (External Link) "Le panier le moins cher" ("The Lowest Grocery Bill") is the chain's current slogan. Loblaw announced on November 16, 2006 that 17 Provigo and Maxi stores in Quebec would be closed.

Maxi & Cie

The chain's Maxi & Cie / Maxi & Co. locations are larger and carry a wider variety of general merchandise, more akin to the hypermarket model.
